Dr Mzukisi Xweso will take up the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Ubuntu | Nyingi waUbuntu on 1 March 2026, continuing a journey with the publication that began as a founding board member in 2024. A Senior Lecturer at North-West University, his academic work in social work and community development is defined by a commitment to African-centred philosophy. His expertise provides a strong foundation for leading a journal dedicated to exploring the interconnected layers of Ubuntu, from the personal and spiritual to the communal and environmental.

In one of his researches, Dr Mzukisi Xweso conceptualises ubudlelane (with Z. Gwam, 2024) as an African philosophy of compassionate sharing and communal responsibility. Grounded in the isiXhosa term ukwabelana (to share), it is metaphorically described as breaking bread (ukuqhe’kezelana ngesonka)—a call for individuals to support and uplift one another through mutual solidarity.
In this leadership role, Dr Xweso will oversee the journal’s multidisciplinary contributions across the dimensions of ukama, ujamaa, ujamii, imvelo and uroho. By bridging indigenous knowledge in modern academic inquiry, he aims to ensure the journal remains a vital space for transformative scholarship.
We warmly welcome Dr Xweso to this new chapter and wish him every success as he leads the journal into the future.
