Terms of Reference
Our editorial board plays a critical role in upholding the quality, integrity, and vision of the journal. They monitor and ensure the effective and ethical management of submissions, peer review processes, and the journal’s strategic development.
Role | Responsibilities |
Chief Editor | Board Chair.Review at all articles submitted to the journal.Approves or rejects or delegates as necessary.Represents the JoU externally. |
Deputy Chief Editor | Board Chair in the absence or delegation of the Chief Editor.Review delegated articles a year. |
Editors | Review at least 3 articles a year. |
Assistant Editors | Review at least 1 article a year. |
Journal Manager | Coordinates day-to-day operations; liaises with authors, reviewers, and the publisher; ensures adherence to timelines and editorial policies.Board Chair in the absence of Chief and Deputy Editor. |
Journal Assistant | Acts in the absence of the Journal Manager or when delegated. |
Guest Editors | Coordinates a special issue.Invited to join the board when they are editing a special issue of the journal. |
Everyone | Uphold academic and ethical standards, including confidentiality and conflict of interest disclosures.Actively participate in editorial and peer review when requested, and within agreed timelines.Attend board meetings (virtual or in-person) and contribute to journal planning.Promote the journal within academic, professional, and policy networks.Mentor junior editors.Identify potential topics and contributors. |
Editorial board membership is both a responsibility and an honour. Members are entrusted with maintaining the scholarly quality and reputation of the Journal of Ubuntu. Through collective effort, the board advances the journal’s contribution to knowledge, practice, and policy.
